Description	:	Esther C. Bockhaus, 91, of New Hampton and formerly from Waverly, Iowa passed away on June 15, 2009 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center in New Hampton. Esther was born on May 3, 1918, the daughter of Fred A. and Martha H. (Kueker) Biermann at her parents home in Bremer County. She was baptized and confirmed both at St. John's U.C.C. – Siegel. Bockhaus, 91, of New Hampton and formerly from Waverly, Iowa passed away on June 15, 2009 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center in New Hampton. Esther was born on May 3, 1918, the daughter of Fred A. and Martha H. (Kueker) Biermann at her parents home in Bremer County. She was baptized and confirmed both at St. John's U.C.C. – Siegel. She attended country school up to the 8th grade by her home. On June 12, 1938, she was united in marriage to Stanley C. Bockhaus at St. John's U.C.C.-Siegel. The couple farmed in the Western Douglas area. Esther was also the assist school bus driver for the Tripoli School System. She was a nurse's aid at the New Hampton Hospital for 12 years. Prior to her retirement, she provided private home nursing care. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church -Western Douglas, where she taught Bible school, Sunday school and played the church organ for 39 years, W.E.L.C.A. society and a former member of the Frederika Town & County Women. Esther taught piano and organ lessons for many years and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and doing ceramics. Survivors are her daughter, Barb McCracken of Fredericksburg, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Phyllis (Bill) Zwanziger of Janesville, Iowa; four grandchildren, Wendy (Barry)Lamos, Dennis (Jennifer) Bockhaus, Jane (Alexander) Murray and Sarah (Matthew)Trometer; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley Bockhaus; son, Allen Bockhaus; a grandson, Perry Bockhaus; son-in-law, Bob McCracken and by two sisters, Bernita Schwarze and Evelyn Drape. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church-Western Douglas rural Plainfield with Pastor Kim Thacker presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church, Iowa Hospice of New Hampton or to the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center and online condolences for Esther may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
