Theodore remained behind in Pennsylvania. They settled in the little town of Harrisburg, in Highland Twp., Washington Co., Iowa. Esther lived with her son Edwin until after the Civil war, and then lived among her children until her death, Dec. 3, 1884, with burial in Harrisburg cemetery, near Ainsworth, Iowa.
