(Source: Grant County, NE Marriage Records) ========================== The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, June 27, 1929; pg. 7 Mrs. George Roth died at her home at Deweese Monday, June 17th, after a short illness following a stroke suffered several days ago. The deceased had with her family resided on the farm four miles east and two north of Lawrence until their retirement some years ago. Besides the husband, five daughters, all married, and six sons survive. The funeral was held from the Christian church, Deweese, Wednesday with interment at Edgar. -- Lawrence (From The Locomotive) ========================= Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE), Friday, Jun 28, 1929; pg. 1 Esther Ellen Roth Dies at Deweese Esther Ellen Harding was born on January 10, 1872, at Charles City, Iowa and departed this life June 17. 1929 at the age of 57 years, 5 months and 7 days. She located with her parents when but one year of age at Orleans, Nebr. She was united in marriage to George Roth, August 28, 1890 at Hyannis, Nebraska. During the same year they came to Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska and resided there until six years ago when they moved near Deweese. To this union was born fourteen children, eleven of whom are living, three having died in infancy. Those left to mourn her death are; her husband, George Roth and children, Harry of Dailey, Colo.; Joseph of Deweese; Lula Kent of Vliets, Kansas; Bertha Trobaugh, Fairfield, Nebraska; Blanche Clifton, Deweese; Margaret Ellis, Davenport; Daniel, Fairfield; Florence Radtke, Seward; Robert and Walter of Deweese and twenty-three grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a member of the Christian church for a number of years and was a faithful worker until the time of her death. She was a sufferer of heart trouble since last January which left her in very poor health, but she was not confined to her bed until June 4, when she suffered a paralytic stroke, which left her unable to tell of her degree of suffering. She was a member of the Royal Neighbor lodge. She was always ready and willing to help her neighbors and friends in time of sickness and need.
