There will be a family prayer service at 1 p.m. MDT Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Esther passed away July 6, 2011, at St. Luke's Home, Dickinson. Esther Koehler was born Jan. 2, 1917, in Krem, the daughter of Joseph and Helena (Weidrich) Koehler. She grew up north of Halliday and attended Pioneer School District. On Oct. 4, 1936, Esther married Adolph Kisse at St. John's Lutheran Church. Together, they lived on various farmsteads near Halliday. She ranched alongside her husband, raising six children. In 1975, they retired and moved to Halliday where they built a new home. After the death of Adolph in 1992, Esther remained living in her home and active in the community as a member of the Halliday Senior Citizens and a 50 year charter member of the Pioneer Homemakers. She was baptized and confirmed St. John's Lutheran Church and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Esther was an avid gardener and was noted for her homemade pickles and fleischkuekle. Esther is survived by five children, Madella (Willie) Schaper, Beulah, Bernice Fredricks, Castle Rock, Colo., Adolph R. (Marilyn) Kisse, Richardton, James Kisse, New Leipzig, and Linda (Keith) Perhus, Marshall; three sisters-in-law, Vera Koehler, Elsie Kisse and Muriel Kisse, all of Bismarck; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helena Koehler; husband, Adolph; one daughter and her husband, Yvonne and Myran Glatt; four brothers, Dan Koehler, Oscar (Mollie) Koehler, Herbert Koehler and Oswald Koehler; two sisters, Hilda (Herbert) Miller and Frieda (Hebert) Wolf; and three grandchildren, Steven Glatt, Douglas Schaper and Rhonda Schaper.
