Description	:	Esther Irene Althouse Mumma was born in a rural community near Hardy March 11, 1897, and passed away in Hastings, Nebraska, at Perkins Pavilion of the Good Samaritan Village on July 24 at the age of 92 years. She was married to Ralph E. Mumma August 10, 1920, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He passed away August 17, 1982. They lived on a farm southeast of Nelson for 32 years. Read More	Esther Irene Althouse Mumma was born in a rural community near Hardy March 11, 1897, and passed away in Hastings, Nebraska, at Perkins Pavilion of the Good Samaritan Village on July 24 at the age of 92 years. She was married to Ralph E. Mumma August 10, 1920, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He passed away August 17, 1982. They lived on a farm southeast of Nelson for 32 years. They moved into Nelson October 24, 1952, where she lived until August of 1987, when she moved to Perkins Pavilion of the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Nebraska. Esther joined the Nelson Methodist Church in 1912 and was actively involved for over 75 years. She served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir and held many offices in the church and women's organizations. She attended Peru State and Kearney State College and was a rural school teacher in the late teens and 1960's for ten years. Mrs. Mumma served as State President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Nebraska Veterans of World War I in 1979 and 1980. Esther and Ralph were awarded the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award in 1979 for their help and service to others. Esther volunteered many hours to the Good Samaritan Home, Nelson, Nebraska. She was active in many community organizations. She served as a 4-H leader, past president of the Fairview Extension Club, which she helped charter in 1925 and was a member of W.C.T.U. She was preceded in death were her parents; her husband, Ralph; two sisters, Rosilia Mikkelsen and Emily Wilson; and a brother, E.J. Althouse. She is survived by four children, Evelyn and her husband Ray Snyder of Hastings, Nebraska, Merle Mumma and his wife Lila of Kenner, Louisiana, Ray Mumma and his wife Kathryn of Port Hueneme, California, and Charles Mumma and his wife Jan of Bismark, North Dakota; one brother, Ralph Althouse and his wife Martha of, Albuquerque, New Mexico; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 27, 1989 at 2:00 p.m., from the Nelson United Community Church of Christ in Nelson with Rev. Royce Buchtel and Rev. Fred J. Snyder officiating. Music was provided by Kathy Essink and Donna Jensen singing a duet of "Have Thine Own Way" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and a congregational hymn of "How Great Thou Art" with Ivan Schafer as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were grandsons, Gene Mumma, Leroy Mumma, Bill Mumma and Phillip Mumma, friends, Kenneth Hamel and Wayne McClure. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Schufeldt, Wilbur Williams, Russell Reeve, Guy Bruce, Allen Kruse, Gordon Sheets and Ralph Bottenfield. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery near Nelson.
