The fourth daughter of Charley and Justina Myers, Esther was born at the family farm in the same home where her father and four sisters were born. She died August 16, 1996 at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. Esther spent her early childhood and adolescence in Iowa, Imperial and Wauneta, Nebraska and Holyoke. She graduated from Chase County High School in Imperial in 1938. She then taught school for several years in Chase County. In June of 1942, Esther married George W. Leibbrandt. They moved to Denver shortly after their marriage. George was called to the U.S. Army and was stationed at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Esther lived there for several years. After George's discharge from the Army, they lived on a farm near Imperial. They later moved to Denver. In 1977, the Leibbrandts moved to Holyoke. Esther had been in extremely poor health for some time. She had been a resident of Prairie Vista Care Center since June 1995. Esther was a very loving and caring wife and mother. She accepted Jesus as her savior at an early age and was a faithful Christian. She was a member of Holyoke Assembly of God. Esther was a talented lady and her interests included cooking, tole painting, ceramics, sewing and music. She truly loved music and could play the piano and organ and sing. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband George, parents Charley and Justina Myers, sisters Velma and Zelma Covert and granddaughter Katie Nicole. Survivors include son James Lester Leibbrandt and wife Martha of Holyoke; daughter Susan Denise Catido and husband Thomas of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter Machel and husband Mike Lovell and two great grandchildren of Imperial, Nebraska; sisters Marie Sanders and Merna McDaniel of Wheat Ridge; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, 1996 at Holyoke Assembly of God Church with interment at Holyoke Memorial Park.
