Description	:	Esther Magdalena Lewis Hart, "Mert", was born March 7, 1923 in Wayne County, Iowa to Lillian Rousset Lewis and Earnest Lewis and passed away on March 3rd at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 25 days. She and her twin brother Eugene grew up in Wayne and Appanoose Counties and attended school in and around Corydon and in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from Corydon High School in 1941 and shortly after began working in the Corydon High School office. She was united in marriage to Kermit Earl Hart on October 25, 1942. She and her twin brother Eugene grew up in Wayne and Appanoose Counties and attended school in and around Corydon and in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from Corydon High School in 1941 and shortly after began working in the Corydon High School office. She was united in marriage to Kermit Earl Hart on October 25, 1942. To this union two children were born, Joan Annette Hart Michael and Jerry Glen Hart. Not long after their marriage Kermit was shipped out to serve in the army during WWII. Upon his return in 1946 they purchased a farm just north of Corydon and she continued to live there until failing health forced her to move to Chariton to be near her daughter Joan. Mert was a homemaker and loved her role as wife and mother. She began working for Dr. K. A. Garber as receptionist in 1961 and worked for him for 27 years. She always referred to him as a wonderful boss. She was a member of the Corydon Christian Church and played organ there for many years. As her son Jerry became disabled due to MS he came to live with his mom and dad in the summer of 1988. She and Kermit lovingly cared for him in their home until his death in 2003. Her Christian faith and her love of family sustained her through this difficult time. She was preceded in death by her husband Kermit, her son Jerry, her infant grandson John Paul Michael, her twin brother and her parents. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Joan Michael (Larry), granddaughter Tammy Marcusson and her daughter Lauren, grandson Tim Michael (Ronda) and their daughter Harli, grandson Tod Micahel (Vonda) and their children Tristen and Karcyn, and grandson Thad Michael (Heather) and their children Mercedes and Cheyenne. Memorials may be given to the Corydon Christian Church music department.
