Unruh, daughter of Henry J. and Marie (Wek) Unruh, was born October 26, 1916 on a farm in Turner County near Hurley, SD. She grew up and received her elementary education there. She completed her high school education at Freeman Academy, Freeman, SD. She then completed secretarial courses at Nettleton Commercial College, Sioux Falls, SD. She was employed in office work for most of her adult life. She moved to Pierre, SD in 1942 and worked for the South Dakota Motor Vehicle Department. She returned to work in Sioux Falls in June of 1944. She was united in marriage with A. Kenneth Gusarson at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls on July 21, 1946. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. She continued work as a secretary and also did fill-in work and vacation relief for other offices on a part-time basis. As a result she had a wide variety of office experience and met many interesting people. In the years preceding her retirement she worked for Northwest Realty Company. The owner of the company was a doll collector and eventually built a museum to display them. Esther helped in collecting dolls from all over the world and catalogued them. In 1976 she became employed by Western Bank and remained there until retiring in 1983. Esther appreciated quality and it was reflected in her home. She and Kenneth had many friends and entertained often in their home. Esther was baptized into the Evangelical faith as a child. After her marriage, she was a faithful member of Augustana Lutheran Church where she participated as a member of WELCA, the Friendship Club and various committees. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Kenneth; three sisters, Annie Graber, Freeman, SD, "Blondie" Zangger and her husband, Clinton, Mesa, AZ, "Dolly" Zangger and her husband, Russell, Larchwood, IA; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Erma Unruh, Beresford, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond Unruh; a nephew, Douglas Unruh; and a brother-in-law, Waldo Graber Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for refreshments and fellowship at Augustana Lutheran Church following the memorial service. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Augustana Lutheran Church Elevator Fund.
