Death came to Mrs. Whitaker very suddenly and shock was a great blow to the family and friends, as she had been able to be out and around but the day before. The following obituary was read at the funeral by the pastor: Esther Neal-Whitaker, daughter of Marion and Nannie Neal, was born on a farm southeast of Maxwell, Sept. 4, 1898. At the age of 13 years she with her parents and sister moved from the farm to Maxwell. In her early life she made her confession of faith in her Lord and attended the Presbyterian Sunday school and church service while living in Maxwell. She was united in marriage to Claud Whitaker Feb. 25, 1920 and to this union one child was born, Paul Levern. Since their marriage she and her husband had lived southeast of Nevada on the Bates farm. She departed this life at her home on the night of Sept. 22, 1924, age 26 years and 18 days. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, son Paul, her father and mother of Sunnyside, Washington and her sister, Jessie Kegley of Des Moines, uncle and aunts, other relatives and a host of friends. She was a loving mother and a good wife. Her mother was not able to attend the funeral because of poor health, but the father is present.
