Esther Kromminga of Monticello died Thursday, June 25, in the Senior Home after an extended illness. she was born August 8, 1913 in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Helena Holst Harms. She received her education in the rural schools near her home and attended the Anamosa high School. She later operated the Corn Crib Cafe in Monticello. Esther Harms and Raymond O. Kromminga were married Dec. 6, 1949 at Palmer. They farmed in Castle Grove township near Monticello. In 1958, they retired from farming and moved to Monticello. Esther was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Monticello. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Marla Paulsen of Center Junction; three step-daughters, Verona Landis, Nedra Hanken and Ruth Harms, all of Monticello; and a stepson, Art of Monticello. Also surviving are two granddaughters, 17 step grandchildren and 43 step great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister. Casket bearers were James Landis, Bruce Landis, Chris Hanken, Jay Hanken, Jeffrey Hanken, John Harms, Gregory Kromminga, Richmond Kromminga. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
