Description	:	Funeral services were held Monday, March 1 for Esther Stortz, 80, of Creighton at St. Ludger Catholic Church with Rev. Melvern Wiese and Rev. Don Stortz of Platte Center officiating, assisted by Rev. Tom Adams, Rev. John Connealy, Rev. James Novotny and Rev. Tom Sellentin. Concelebrating were Archbishop Daniel E. Sheehan and forty-two priests. Roger Polt was cantor, Don Noecker, soloist and Sister Diane, organist. Servers were Jim and Joe Fuchtman. Participating in the gift procession were four grandchildren. Esther Stortz was born in Wisner on November 26, 1901 to Carl and Ida Herman Schula. The Schulas farmed southeast of Wisner for many years. Esther was united in marriage to Leo Stortz on September 19, 1922. Three children were born to this union. The Stortz family made their home just east of Creighton and were active in community affairs. Esther was a working member of the Creighton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, St. Ludger Altar Society, Pavia (diocesan missionary organization), National Council of Catholic Women and Creighton Community Improvement Council She also enjoyed attending Thursday Club, volunteering work for the school and supporting fund drives. Esther was also one of the seven Merit Mothers for 1969 from the entire state and received the Mullen Award. She had been in poor health for two years with many complications caused by cancer. It was her desire to bequeath her body to the Anatomical Board of Creighton University of Omaha. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Bernard and Eugene; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Fuchtman (Clara) and Mrs. Henry (Hattie). Her survivors include her husband, Leo, one son, Rev. Donald Stortz of Platte Center; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Mildred) Schwartz of Winnetoon and Janith Stortz of Creighton; four grandchildren and four great granchildren; two brothers, Herbert Schula of Wisner and John Schula of Montibello, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Fred (Laura) Van Brocklin of Creighton, Mrs. Charles (Lydia) of Albuquerque, N.M. and Sisters Charlene and Veronica, both of St. Anne Hospice, Winona, Minn. ...The Creighton News 11 March 1982
