Description	:	"Ethan Estabrook Foster was born in Peacham, Vt., March 26, 1842. When about eleven years of age he came with his parents to Barton, settling on a farm on the hollow road about mid way between Barton and Barton Landing where he lived till May, 1867, when he left the farm and bought the Union Hotel at Glover which he kept eight years; going from there to Morrisville where he kept hotel one year when he came to Barton and bought the Jerry Drew hotel (so-called) on the site of Hotel Barton, which he kept eight years - making in... Read More	"Ethan Estabrook Foster was born in Peacham, Vt., March 26, 1842. When about eleven years of age he came with his parents to Barton, settling on a farm on the hollow road about mid way between Barton and Barton Landing where he lived till May, 1867, when he left the farm and bought the Union Hotel at Glover which he kept eight years; going from there to Morrisville where he kept hotel one year when he came to Barton and bought the Jerry Drew hotel (so-called) on the site of Hotel Barton, which he kept eight years - making in all seventeen years of hotel keeping. In December, 1884 he sold the hotel and bought the J. F. Taylor place in the upper part of the village where he resided till his death. December 31st, 1864 he was married to Josephine D. Merriam, daughter of Wm. Merriam Esq. of Glover who has been a most efficient and faithful helpmeet to him and by whom he was carefully and constantly nursed in his last illness. He leaves besides a wife, one sister, Mrs. C. W. Clark, of Stanstead, P. Q. He was a veteran of the civil war, having served in the 15th Vt. regiment, and was a member of Mason Post No. 16, G. A. R., of Glover. He was also a Free Mason thirty years, a member of Orleans lodge No 55 of Barton. The funeral was held at his late residence Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 3rd, Rev. W. A Warner, pastor of the Barton Cong'l church officiating, and was in charge of the Masons of whom a large number were present, also members of the G. A. R. and many citizens of Barton and Glover. The singing was by a male quartette which rendered two beautiful selections. The bearers were F. W. Baldwin, O V. Joslyn, E. W. Barron, C. E. Hamblet, C.S.Parker and John Bean. The interment was in the Glover cemetery, the Masonic burial service being used at the grave." (Orleans County Monitor, 9 Nov 1903)
