She united with Eddyville Methodist church at an early age. she was also a member of the Christian Bible Study group. In her passing she leaves two daughters, Dorothy Noe, Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Elma Werner, Oskaloosa, Iowa and one son, Richard who was living at the home. Also one sister, Mrs. Mary Barnett of Eddyville and one brother, W. Harold Hartman of Waterloo. funeral services were held from the Eddyville Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. L.B. Hight officiating and Rev. Lawrence Hight assisting. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. "Life's labor done, as sinks the clay Light from its load the spirit flies White heaven and earth combine Has blest the righteous when they die." --Mrs. Anna Barbould Front Page Article from the Eddyville paper on December 13, 1951: The Eddyville community last Monday evening was profoundly shocked to learn that a well known resident of the Sand Ridge, a mile north of town, Mrs. Christina Noe, had been found murdered, lying on the floor of her home. The hatched-hacked body lying face-down, had been found by her 18 year old son, Richard about five o'clock on his return from work at the Morrell Packing house in Ottumwa. He found the doors all locked and the radio playing, when he came to the house, while all around were signs of the desperate struggle that preceded the brutal slaying. Mrs. Noe's head and face showed numerous cuts, evidently inflicted by a hatchet in the hands of her assailant, and a bloody hatchet was found not far away. The blood-stained hatchet is held by the police and will be closely examined for finger prints that may reveal the identity of the slayer. Mrs. Noe's daughter, Dorothy, 25, is being held as a suspect in the case. Deputy Sheriff Rodney Keoppel of Oskaloosa, is of the opinion that Mrs. Noe was killed a number of hours before the body was discovered. The deputy sheriff stated that Miss Dorothy Noe, had been a patient in the State Mental Health Institute at Mt. Pleasant, but had been released last February. Since then she had lived in various places, but when she and her uncle Cecil Noe, aged about 40, were arrested as they stepped off the Greyhound Bus on its arrival in Des Moines, she gave that city as her home. Cecil Noe explained he was going to Des Moines on a visit. He was later released, while she is being held in Oskaloosa for questioning. Mrs. Christina Noe was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hartman of Eddyville, both deceased. She was an active member of the Methodist church and its several branches. Her husband, Frederick, has been dead about 16 years. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Newton where they lived for sevral years. Then they moved back to the Sand Ridge; their home being a few hundred yards west on Highway No. 15, where the lower bridge spans Muchakinock Creek. A graduate of the Eddyville High school, she taught for several years in the rural schools. Her daughter, Dorothy, was likewise a teacher after graduating from Eddyville High. She attended the University of Iowa and for a time had employment in New York City. She had psychiatric treatment at Iowa City before she was committed to Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Richard Noe is quoted as saying his mother has been afraid of her daughter, since her release from Mt. Pleasant. Besides this daughter and son, Mrs. Noe had another daughter, Mrs. Robert Werner of Oskaloosa. Her brother Harold Hartman, superintendent of the Black Hawk county schools and a sister, Mrs. Wayne Barnett, who lives about five miles south of Eddyville. The body was taken to Des Moines where an autopsy was performed, and later returned to the Klein Funeral Home at Eddyville. Funeral will be held from the Eddyville Methodist church Thursday afternoon, Dec. 13, at 2 o'clock with Rev. L Hight officiating. Burial was made in Highland cemetery.
