Description	:	Ethel Elizabeth, eldest daughter of George and Catharine Icenbice, was born in Iowa county, Iowa, July the 28th, 1885 , died at her home nine miles southeast of Deep River, Iowa, Wednesday, April the 4th, 1917 at 5:20 o'clock p.m., peacefully giving up her life just at the close of day. At the age of about five years she, with her parents and sister, moved to Deep River, Iowa, where she was educated in the public schools, graduating in the class of 1902. Later she taught in the rural schools of Iowa and Poweshiek counties, also at Cambridge, Neb., for a period of four years. On April the 15th, 1908, she was married to Carl Gabriel, going with him to the farm which they occupied until she passed away. Her religion was a part of her everyday life, being converted and joining the Methodist church of Deep River at the age of ten years, always active in church work, especially Epworth League. After her marriage to Mr. Gabriel she placed her membership in the Hope chapel M. E. church, at which place she helped to organize the Epworth League, acting as president for two years and as long as her health permitted engaged actively in all such work. Many are the tender memories of her because of her Christ like spirit in ministering to those in tome of distress and sorrow. To know her was to love her. The past year she had been a constant sufferer, bearing all with Christian patience and fortitude, ever mindful of those attending with a pleas- ant greeting for and and all who came. She leaves to mourn their loss, her devoted husband, father, mother, sister (Mrs. Clint Fahrney), brother, Howard, and little niece Lucille Fahrney, and a host of relatives and friends. Special mention should be made of the deep affection existing between Mr. Gabriel's parents and herself. The funeral took place from the late home Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., at the Deep River M. E. church. Rev. Cole, of Millersburg, who had often visited her in her long sickness and spoke comforting words, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. Gardner, of Deep River.
