Description	:	E. Hermine Gardner Cherry, 65, passed away Friday morning, May 18, 2012, in the presence of her loving family. She was born March 17, 1947, in Terre Haute, to Major R. and Henrietta Shepard Gardner. She was a 1964 graduate of the former Gerstmeyer High School. She worked for the late Dr. James O. She was born March 17, 1947, in Terre Haute, to Major R. and Henrietta Shepard Gardner. She was a 1964 graduate of the former Gerstmeyer High School. She worked for the late Dr. James O. Conklin family for more than 30 years. She was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church. She also was a member of Bethlehem Chapter 6 Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated. She was a Past Worthy Matron and Past District Deputy Grand Matron of District 3 jurisdiction of Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. "Sonny" Cherry Sr.; her parents; and two brothers, Charles and Thomas Gardner. She is survived by two sons, Joseph M. "Sonny" Cherry III (Candace) of Terre Haute, and Anthony E. "Tony" Cherry (Robyn) of Indianapolis; three daughters, Crystal M. Cherry and Jamia N. Cherry, both of Indianapolis, and Penny S. Cherry of Terre Haute; three brothers, Allen Anderson (Norma) of Terre Haute, Major E. "Gene" Gardner (Cynthia) of Indianapolis, and Sylvester R. "Gabby" Gardner of Terre Haute; two sisters, Dorothy M. McGee (Tony) of Terre Haute, and June A. Ellington of Indianapolis; special friend of 16 years, Roderick A. Smith of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Second Missionary Baptist Church, with the Pastor James Barleston Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Stewart Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the church. Rites will be given by Bethlehem Chapter OES. Chapter 6 at 7 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bluitt & Son Funeral Home.
