Mrs. Burris passed away October 29, 1996 at Mercy Hospital in Corning. Conducting the service was the Rev. Robert D. Foster. Music was provided by Carolyn Davis, pianist, and Mike and Bill Amdor, vocalists. Pallbearers were grandchildren. Becky Scanlan, Shana Symonds, Kenya McLaren, Jolene Sherley, and Amy Przychodzin were in charge of flowers. Interment was in the Victoria Cemetery near Massena. Steen Funeral Home of Massena was in charge of arrangements. Ethel R. Burris was born December 24, 1911 to Walter and Jessie LeFleur Johnson in Audobon County, Iowa. On August 27, 1930 Ethel was united in marriage to Fred Albert Burris in Corning, Iowa. They were the parents of six children: June, Lois, Bill, Jack, Diane, and Judy. Ethel was a homemaker, mother, and cook. She had lived in Massena since 1958 and in recent years made her home at the Colonial Manor in Corning. Ethel was a great listener and like a mother to all who knew her. She spent many years cooking at local restaurants and took great pride in her work. She enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, going on picnics, and working in her garden. She touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; daughter, Lois Mullen; son-in-law, Curt Davis; a grandson, Curtis Wayne Davis; granddaughter-in-law, Diane Burris; and a brother-in-law, Ted Straight. She is survived by her daughters: June Davis of Kansas City, Missouri, Diane Petersen of Massena, and Judy Wolford of Kansas City, Missouri; sons: Bill Burris and wife Pat of Belgium, Wisconsin, and Jack Burris and wife Mary of Roswell, New Mexico; son-in-law, Gene Mullen of Corning; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Straight of Atlantic and Irene Rothe and husband Bruce of Sun City, Arizona; a brother, Wayland Johnson of Anita; other relatives and friends.
