She received her education from Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1932. Joy then pursued higher education at the Kearney State Teachers College in 1936 and 1937 to receive her teaching certificate. Joy was born April 22, 1915 in Harlan County, southwest of Holdrege, Nebraska to Edwin and Minnie (Pierce) Kyser. She received her education from Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1932. Joy then pursued higher education at the Kearney State Teachers College in 1936 and 1937 to receive her teaching certificate. She taught at the Olive Branch school, south of Kearney, Nebraska from 1937 to 1939. On September 1, 1940 she was united in marriage to Gustaf "Gus" Lindstrom and to this union four children were born: Ronda Luann, Loma Sue, Gaylen Dee (who was born at rest) and Ranita Jean. Joy continued her teaching career into 1941 at the Atlanta, Nebraska school. After her husband's death in 1961, she was employed in the Funk, Nebraska post office and Hested's variety store before becoming proprietor of Joy's Grocery in Funk. In 1969, she sold the store and went to work at Paige's Superette in Holdrege for several years and later at Noble's Drug. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Phelps County Historical Society Museum, serving on the planning committee for the Holdrege High School Alumni Banquets, was a member of the Sarah Guild of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing card games at every opportunity. Joy leaves to mourn her passing: daughters: Ronda Simpson and her husband, James of Kansas City, Missouri, Loma Lindstrom and Ranita Lilyhorn both of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Andrea Dundas and her husband, Roger of Kansas City, MO, Patricia Martin and her husband, Matthew of Norfolk, VA, Justin Simpson and his wife, Amy of Seattle, WA and Laura Warren and her husband, Chris of Omaha; eight great-grandsons; and a host of relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Gus and son, Gaylen Dee, she was preceded in death by parents and brothers: George and John Kyser.
