Ethel Joyce Erickson was born on October 9, 1929, at the family farm near Coteau, ND to Christ and Helen (Thies) Erickson. Ethel was the oldest of seven children. Read More	ETHEL HANSON JESPERSEN The Lord took our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Great Grandmother, Sister and Friend home on December 8, 2015. Ethel Joyce Erickson was born on October 9, 1929, at the family farm near Coteau, ND to Christ and Helen (Thies) Erickson. Ethel was the oldest of seven children. After graduating from Kenmare High School she obtained her teaching certificate at Minot State Teacher's College. She taught at a country school near her home and at Battleview School, along with her sister Violet. In 1950, Ethel and Arthur Hanson were married in a double wedding ceremony with Violet and Carl Jepsen, Jr. To this union six children were born; she quickly filled the roles of teacher, cheerleader, referee, cook, event planner, seamstress and storyteller. Art and Ethel shared 43 years of marriage until Art passed away in June of 1993. Ethel married Merton Jespersen in 1999; they lived in Antler, ND until 2005 at which time they moved to Minot. Merton and Ethel resided in Minot until Merton’s death in 2011. In 2012 she moved to Bismarck where she resided until the time of her death. Ethel is well known for her later in life business, “Ethel’s Drive In” which she owned and operated for seventeen years in Bowbells, ND. She became famous for her monkey tails, Big E burgers, and delicious pies. She was a cherished role model for her employees and became everyone’s Grandma, creating a place where young people enjoyed hanging out. Over the years her family grew and with each new addition her big blue eyes twinkled a little more. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great joy in her life. She will always be remembered for her big smile and warm heart. Ethel is survived by daughters, Shirley (Allan) Klein, Bismarck; Mary (Kevin) Hellman, Bismarck; Monica (Brad) Kjos, Kenmare; Jane (Alan) Peterson, Williston; son, Jeff (Roxanne) Hanson, Bowbells; son-in-law, James Aniol, Wisconsin; 24 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Violet Jepsen, Carol (Alvin) Holen, and Linda (Larry) Buller; 3 brothers, Lyle (Gunnie) Erickson, Bob (Davene) Erickson, and Morris (Linda) Erickson; sister-in-law, Lorraine Liebl; and numerous nieces and nephews; step-children Sonya Woinarowicz, and Daren (Renae) Jespersen and 1 step-granddaughter. Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur Hanson, husband Merton Jespersen, daughter Sheila Aniol, step-grandson Tanner Jespersen, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
