Description	:	Ethel L. Fiscus Plock, 99, of Bridgeport, died Friday, June 9, 2017 at Skyview in Bridgeport. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport with Pastor Ray Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Broadwater. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made in care of the family and will be designated at a later date. Ethel was born September 26, 1917 on the Fiscus family homestead north east of Bayard. She was the youngest of seven children born to Roy and Emma Bessie Fiscus, which included Claire, Merle, Lilly, Mabel, Elsie, Hazel, and of course, Ethel. Ethel attended school in the Red Willow Community as well as church, Bible school, and bible study. She rode the horse to school with her siblings, although she often mentioned that the horse dumped them and they ended walking more often than not. Ethel married Donald L. Plock on October 1, 1939 in Harrisburg. In those days, not many folks had extra money for extravagant weddings. So on a Sunday afternoon, Don and Ethel snuck off to Harrisburg to get hitched. They were celebrating during dinner in Bridgeport when Ethel’s oldest brother, Claire, happened to walk into the café. He guessed immediately that the two had tied the knot, and so the secret was out! Don and Ethel became the proud parents of Donna Darleen on January 6, 1941. Donna was born on the Fiscus homestead just as Ethel had been. The family lived in the Red Willow and Redington areas, but returned to the homestead following the death of Ethel’s father. For many years, Don and Ethel cared for Ethel’s mother. During that time, Ethel was involved in Bible studies, Extension Club, and church activities. Ethel was blessed with an abundance of musical talent and could play anything with keys or strings by ear. She did take piano lessons to learn to read music and then taught piano lessons to numerous young people in the community. Ethel worked at what is now Regional West Hospital in the Geriatric Department. She also worked in the kitchen at Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff. For many years she sold Avon products in the Red Willow Community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. After moving to Bridgeport in 1980, Don and Ethel worked at the Chimney Rock Mobile Museum at south Bayard. They greeted thousands of visitors every summer from across the globe. They told many amusing stories about their encounters with tourists visiting western Nebraska. Ethel loved music, gardening, and her flower beds. She was a wonderful cook and baked more cookies in her lifetime than the Keebler Elves! (Because Grandpa didn’t like store-bought cookies.) She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, hosting holiday dinners, her granddaughters, great grandsons, and great great grandbabies! Ethel has been a good and faithful servant and has prayed without ceasing for her family and friends. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Nelson of Bridgeport; granddaughters, Janelle (Don) Frerichs of Sidney, Kellee Gooder of Chadron, and Alexis (Clint) Sterkel of Bridgeport; great grandsons, Art (Trish) Frerichs of Morrill, Dale (Angela) Frerichs of Kimball, Scott (Nicole) Gooder of Chadron, Andrew (Brittney) Gooder of Chadron, James Gooder of Lincoln, Casey (Andrea) Sterkel of Bridgeport and Jordan (fiancé, Chelsea Altena) Sterkel of Angora; great great grandchildren, Jae, Raimee, Grady, Bensyn, Tristan, Tenley, and Treyson Gooder of Chadron, Devani and Emerson Frerichs of Kimball, Allie and Anderson Frerichs of Morrill and Kinsley Sterkel of Bridgeport. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband, Don; and son-in-law, Ronald Nelson.
