Description	:	Ethel Mae (Nygaard) Spooner passed away at St. Luke's Care Center, Crosby, on May 8, 2021 at the age of 93. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Noonan, with Pastor Janet Gwin officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby and also one hour before the service at the church. Ethel was born to John and Olga (Nelson) Nygaard in rural Divide County on Sept. 15, 1927. She grew up in rural Divide County attending Bluffton county school through the eighth grade and Crosby High School, graduating in 1945. She married Alan Spooner on Oct. 6, 1946. They lived and farmed in Divide County until retiring to Minot in 1994. Alan passed away in 2013. Ethel continued to live in assisted living facilities in Minot and Bismarck until moving to St. Luke's Care Center in Crosby in 2016, where she lived until her death. During their life on the farm, Ethel supported their life by growing a huge garden, baking bread every week, and sewing the majority of the clothes for the family. She also milked up to 20 cows twice a day during seeding and harvest time. They raised their own cattle, pigs and chickens. They sold cream and eggs to local stores for spending money. Ethel was an active member of rural Glenwood and Zion churches. She was in the Ladies Aid and served in all officer roles over the years. She joined Homemakers in 1950. She was also an active member of many local organizations, serving in leadership roles in most. She joined the quilt guilds in Crosby and Minot. She made many beautiful quilts over the years. She also had a long arm quilting machine and did quilting for many friends and relatives. Ethel is survived by her daughter, Donna Hegle, Bismarck; sons: Mark (Lori), Noonan; Albert (May), Minneapolis; Todd, Crosby. Grandchildren: Zanthia (Jeff) Price, Bismarck; Ben Hegle, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Joshua Spooner, Fargo; Andrea (Tjaden) Sinclair, Fargo; Eric (Maria) Spooner, West Fargo; William Spooner, Bismarck; Adam Spooner, Bismarck; Kaynna Insixiengmay, Minneapolis; Kayla (Derek) Long, Idaho; Alex Spooner, Idaho and Jorden Spooner, Idaho and nine great-grandchildren. Brothers: Julian Nygaard, Vernon Nygaard, Lloyd Nygaard and John Nygaard, all of Crosby and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alan; sons: Keith and Duane; son-in-law Ken Hegle; sisters: Julane Haugland, Avis Dissell, Luella Oien and Irene Beasley.
