Martin, one of Ackley's former well known boys and young men who grew to manhood here, has been made desolate by the death of his wife, which occurred at an early hour, at the family home at Eldora, Tuesday morning, after an illness that had kept her within doors several months, and which illness found no relief although the best possible of human endeavor was given and administered. Eldora was the girlhood home of Mrs. Martin; her childhood days were spent and she grew to womanhood there. See page eight. ------------------ page 8: OBITUARY Mrs. Ethel Mary Hendryx was born March 15, 1879 at Union, Hardin county, Iowa, and she passed from her earthly to her heavenly home Sept. 6, 1920. When twelve years old she moved to Eldora with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hendryx. She graduated from the Eldora high school in the class of 1897. She was married at Eldora to Mr. Wm. F. Martin of Ackley, on February 23, 1898. To them was born one daughter, Hazel Florence. Besides her husband and her daughter she is survived by her mother, Mrs. H. H. Hendryx of Eldora, and a sister, Mrs. F. E. Wenham, of Bishop, California. Mrs. Martin was public spirited in her sympathies and efforts. She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Methodist church, the Hawthorne Club, the Cemetery Association and the Pythian Sisters. She was of a happy, wholehearted disposition, unselfish in spirit, true in friendship. Mrs. Martin had been a sufferer for some time and underwent an operation last April in the hopes of restored health. When these hopes were not fulfilled, she was patient in disappointment and brave in endurance and in the days of pain until her release was sustained by a triumphant Christian faith. "Come, ye disconsolate, where'er ye languish, Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel; Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish; Earth hath no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal."
