She attained the age of 88 years, five months and 13 days. Ethel Meier Hoogestraat was born Jul. 16, 1912, on a farm south of Chancellor, SD, a daughter of Henry G. and Kate (Bloem) Meier. Ethel Meier Hoogestraat was born Jul. 16, 1912, on a farm south of Chancellor, SD, a daughter of Henry G. and Kate (Bloem) Meier. At three years of age, she moved to Chancellor with her family,where she grew to womanhood. She attended Chancellor Public School and graduated from high school there in 1930. On Feb. 16, 1938,she was united in marriage to Ernest Hoogestraat in Lennox, SD. The couple farmed south of Chancellor. Her husband preceded her in death on May 6, 1967. In Nov. of 1968, she moved into Lennox, where she continued to make her home. She was employed at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center for 12 years, retiring in 1979. Due to failing health and the loss of her eyesight, Mrs. Hoogestraat became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on Sep. 23, 1992. On May 26, 1996,she moved to Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls. Grateful for having shared her life are her brother, Fred Meier and his wife, Margaret, of LaHabra, CA; her sister-in-law, Bessie Hoogestraat of Sioux Falls.
