Read More	Funeral Card: Ethel Susan McNerney, daughter of Ephrahaim and Gertrude (Whitely) Langley was born Mar. 1, 1888, in Osborne Co., KS. Her death occurred July 28, 1988 at the Russell Reg. Hospital. Her age was 100 years, 4 months, and 27 days. She lived in a sod house in western Kansas, the first-born of eight children. She received her basic education in the rural school near the family home and two days after her 18th birthday on Mar. 3, 1906 she married James Steen McNerney, at Osborne, KS. the union was blessed with eight children: Freda, Alvin, Bernice, Alden, Gerald, Dale, Dwight, and Robert. The family made their home on a farm northeast of Luray where she occupied her time with the many and varied activities of a farming housewife, homemaker and mother. After the death of her husband James on Apr. 24, 1940, she began working as a practical nurse, serving in Osborne and Russell Counties. She moved to Luray in 1942 and worked from there both as a live-in nurse as well as working as needed for many area families. She continued her practical nursing until she was 75 years of age and at that time moved to Russell to make her home. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, UMW, and E.H.U., all of Russell. Ethel loved to garden and grow flowers and she continued to look after her own home including her own cooking until she was 98 years of age. For the past year she resided at the Russell Kare Center when she could no longer maintain her own home. Those who preceded her in death were her parents; husband, James; two sons, Alvin and Dale; one brother, Otis Langley; and two sisters, Lydia Hoopes, and Minnie Rogers. Survivors are her children: Freda Rogers and Bernice Jenkins, both of Bunker Hill; Alden of Parkdale, OR; Gerald of WaKeeney; Dwight of Branson, MO; and Robert of Yuma, AZ. She is also survived by a brother, August Langley, of San Diego, CA and three sisters, Nellie Farr and Edra Cruise, both of Salina; and Beulah Petry of Osborne; 16 grandchildren; 36 gt. grandchildren; and 8 gt. gt. grandchildren; several other relatives and a host of friends.
