Read More	Ethelyn Virginia Kerchevale Sachs-Thompson April 18, 1930 - March 24, 2020 MARTINSBURG, WV – Ethelyn Virginia Kerchevale Sachs-Thompson, 89, of Martinsburg, WV, departed this life Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at the home of her youngest son and his wife, Mark and Viviane Sachs, in Tulsa, OK, after a brief illness. Born April 18, 1930, at home in South Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward Kerchevale and Esther Martha Drewnoski Kerchevale. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Rev. Edward F. Sachs (1948-1989); husband, Charles L. Thompson (1998-2016); son-in-law, Frederick M. King; brother, Earl Kerchevale; half-sisters, Marion Golden, Rita Rice, Freda Showalter, Lydia Thompson, Kathleen Miller, and Dorothy Twigg. Ethelyn grew up in Oldtown, MD, and graduated from Oldtown High School in 1948. In November of that same year she married “Eddie” Sachs, and the couple relocated to Wiley Ford, WV. They resided in various locales in MD until Eddie was called into the ministry. His pastoral assignments took them to Green Spring, WV, Wytheville, VA, and Pembroke, VA. While residing in Pembroke, Ethelyn provided in-home child care to over 100 children, who affectionately knew her as “Nana.” From 1974 to 2016, she was active in many functions local to Giles County including the Lord’s Acre Sale and Pembroke Heritage Festival. She was highly sought after for her homemade apple pies. At the age of 18, she accepted Christ as her personal savior, and all those who knew her saw that she lived her faith. Over the years, she was a member of Assemblies of God churches. Not only was she the pastor’s wife, she also held many positions such as a leader for the Women’s Ministry, Sunday school teacher, and children’s director. In November 2016, Ethelyn relocated, with her daughter, “Missy,” to Martinsburg, WV, to live with her son, Doug Sachs and his wife, Cheryl. She has left a legacy. She has left her mark as a mother/mom, sister, nana, auntie, friend, and mentor. To God be the glory for her life and now she has many crowns to lay at her saviour’s feet! Surviving are her children, Douglas F. Sachs (Cheryl), David E. Sachs (David), Melissa Sachs King, Jonathan “Mark” Sachs (Viviane); grandchildren, Benjamin A. King, and Branden P. King (Danielle); great-grandchildren, Kiara M., Branden P., II, and Allanah C. King, Jaiden A. Napier, Jasmine E., and Serenity R. King; siblings, Gladys Headley, Jimmy Whitaker, and Eleanor “Betty” Shipes; many nieces and nephews. A private funeral service will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD, on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at 2 p.m. The service will be live streamed as attendance is extremely limited due to current restrictions.
