Lavern was born on April 15, 1925, in Virgil, Kansas, to John W. and Edna Blohm Culver. Lavern had worked a several restaurants, Z &L Grocery, Huff’s Gardens, and at the kitchen at the school. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Burlington. Lavern married Melvin Shepard on September 10, 1941. He died on October 23, 1981. She then married Clayton Botham on July 8, 1989. Lavern was born on April 15, 1925, in Virgil, Kansas, to John W. and Edna Blohm Culver. Lavern had worked a several restaurants, Z &L Grocery, Huff’s Gardens, and at the kitchen at the school. Lavern was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, five sisters and their spouses, Lessie (Ernest) Terrell, Mildred (Howard) Grey, Reva (Bill) Ellis, and Myrtle (Elton) Francis, four brothers, Lawrence Culver, Bill Culver, Robert (Bonnie) Shepard, and William Kester, one grandson, and two great granddaughters. Lavern is survived by her son, Darl, (Yvonne) Shepard, Topeka, five daughters, Mildred (Floyd) Smith, Rose Hill, Alberta (Roger, Sr.) Tillis, Columbus, OH, Peggy (Randall) Smith, Gridley, Betty (Jerry) Price, Waverly, and Donna (Bobby) Staten, Burlington, a sister-in-law, Norma Kester, Burlington, 79 grand, great, and great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Services will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 16, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, Burlington. The family will receive friends, Sunday, 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
