She was a twin in a family of 8 children. Her twin brother, Marshall, died in childhood. Two sisters, Clara and Cora, and a brother Perry, also died in childhood. Another sister. Hattie Walters, and a brother, Herbert, died within the past few years. There remain of the children, Ora O. White and Mrs. Elmer Lindberg, both of Villisca. As a child Etta Mae White attended the Methodist Grove country school, and the nearby Mt. Zion Presbyterian Sunday school. Several years later she moved with her family to a farm east of Villisca. On February 20, 1902 she was joined in marriage to James Herbert King with whom she lived in Villisca, Nodaway, and Guss communities an her life. They had been married 40 years at the time of his passing in 1942. She was an affectionate wife, and in her passing was re-united to him on the birthday of her husband. To them were born three daughters and two sons. Four of them survive their mother's passing. They are, Mrs. George Carmichael and Mrs. Glen Jackson of Villisca, Frank King of Kansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Willard Hethcote of Lakewood, Colorado. Emmet LeRoy died In early life. Mrs. King is also survived by twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A member of the Methodist Church for nearly fifty years, she was a faithful attendant at it's services, and a loyal worker in the Master's cause. She was always a busy at home, at church, and in the community. One of her great interests was in pioneering in the Extension Service to rural women. Mrs. King will "be lovingly remembered by her children as a fine Christian mother, by others as a good neighbor and friend." Funeral services were held at the Villisca Methodist church at 2 p.m on Wednesday, July 22, 1953 with the Rev. Everett Stants in charge. A short prayer service was held at the Pitman Funeral Home preceding the church service. Singing was by Mrs. Robert Rusk, accompanied by Mrs. Win. Anderson at the organ. Pall bearers were Alva Walters, Willard White, Gilbert Lindberg, Duane Pond, Milton Ankeny, and Harold Walters. Ushers at the church were Wm. Repass and Roy Selley, Ladies assisting with the flowers were Mrs. Marion Needham and Mrs. Virginia Westerlund. Interment was in the Methodist Grove cemetery southeast of Nodaway.
