Etta Marie Kimminau was born on September 4, 1914 at Hot Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of Jeff and Maude (Caldwell) Ratliff. She passed away on February 16, 1993 at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior. She was reared in Hot Springs, Arkansas and graduated from High School there. She later moved to Byres, Colorado and later to Denver, Colorado. She was married to Ralph Shield and was the mother to three children from that marriage. Following the death of Mr. Shields, she married Hubert Kimminau on August 16, 1973 in Englewood, Colorado. Etta and Hubert moved to Lawrence in 1978 following their retirement. She worked for the Inland Paper Company before retirement. In 1987 she suffered a stroke which forced her to a wheelchair. For approximately the past 1 1/2 years she had been living in the Good Samaritan Home in Superior, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband. Survivors include her husband, Hubert; three sons: Joe Shields of Scottsbluff, Tom Shields of Denver and Phil Shields of Lincoln; two sisters, Jessie Finell of Englewood and Daisie Libby of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
