Following her graduation from Washington Senior High School, she worked at McKennan Hospital as a nurse's aid. She was united in marriage to Owen Gerry on November 5, 1949. Read More	Etta was born on February 19, 1930, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Dean and Della (Cary) Cunningham. Following her graduation from Washington Senior High School, she worked at McKennan Hospital as a nurse's aid. She was united in marriage to Owen Gerry on November 5, 1949. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where she became a homemaker and loving mother. Etta later became employed with Mom and Dad's Nursing Home. In 1971, Owen and Etta became loving foster parents. Over the course of a decade, the family opened their home to six children. Etta loved to read, and was particularly an avid reader of romance novels and the Bible. She enjoyed watching baseball and golf, and in years past liked to go fishing with the rest of the family. The Gerry household was always open to the neighborhood children. Etta loved to cook and bake for the kids. She was a great listener and was very giving. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren. Blessed with a spirit of compassion, Etta always made herself available to those in need. Owen passed away on August 28, 2003. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, and was a past member of the Moose Lodge Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary. Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Michael Gerry and his wife, Allison, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Kathleen Granum, Sioux Falls, Debbie Hennings and her husband, Vern, Sioux Falls, Karen Ennis and her husband, David, Angleton, TX, Michele DeKnikker and her husband, Donny, Montrose, SD; a special son-in-law, Paul A. Granum, Sioux Falls, 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and brothers, Chester Cunningham and his wife, Thelma, Parker, SD, Melvin Cunningham and his wife, Dorothy, Spokane, WA; sister-in-law, Shirley Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, her parents, one sister and two brothers preceded her in death. The family of Etta Gerry thanks you for your support and presence today. An invitation is extended to join them at First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall for refreshments and fellowship following the committal service. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004 Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, South Dakota Interment Hills of Rest Memorial Park, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Visitation begins at noon on Wednesday with the family present from 7:00 - 8:00 at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main.
