Description	:	Eugene A. “Gene” Farus, 67, of DeWitt died Wednesday, Dec. 13, at his home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 (today), at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Father Robert Harness will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers are Vern Fleagle, Richard Hergert, Tim Krall, Don Northrup, Jim Richmond, Kenny Ruggeberg, John Sheridan and Bob Walters. Gene Farus was born July 1, 1928, in Forest City to Oliver and Hazel Brown Farus. In 1946 he graduated from Riceville High School and married Virginia DeSloover Jan. 1, 1951, in Osage, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa and served seven years with the Iowa National Guard. He was employed for 10 years at the Farus Hardware in Riceville, then three years as an insurance adjuster with Iowa Hardware Insurance Company in Mason City, Iowa. He retired Dec. 31, 1994, as agency vice president of Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, having been employed with the company more than 33 years. He was on the board of directors of Iowa American Insurance Company. He was a member and past president of the DeWitt Noon Lions Club and the 1752 Club of Iowa. He was a member of the Quad City Chapter of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters, Illinois and Nebraska 1752 Clubs, Independent Insurance Agents Association of Iowa, and Professional Insurance Agents Association of Iowa. He was also a member of the DeWitt Theater Company (D.A.R.T.), Springbrook Country Club, DeWitt, and Masonic Lodge No. 34, AF and AM, and was a former member of the DeWitt Toastmaster Club. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sue of San Diego, Calif., a son, David, of Louisville, Colo.; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. A son, James, preceded him in death on March 15, 1977.
