Eugene "Gene" Alfred Stohr was born on November 2, 1938 at his home near Moritz, SD to William (Bill) and Edna (Dummann) Stohr. He grew up in Deuel County, was baptized at home on December 4, 1938, attended both a country school of Moritz and Clear Lake School District and was confirmed on July 5, 1953 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church (Wisconsin Synod). Gene served in the Air National Guard from August of 1957 through August 1961 and the Air Force Reserve from August 1961 through August 1964 and was honorable discharged on August 3, 1964. He held positions on different boards and was a member of different organizations—most notably the Treasurer of the School Board for the Rush Lake School District #44 and a member of Deuel County Lakes and Streams. He held different jobs ranging from a farm hand, working at the Mobile Station, owning a Creamery, a trapper for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and finally settling into his destined place of farming east of Altamont, SD. Gene was married twice. From his first marriage on May 29, 1960, he was blessed with three children. On November 10, 1971, he was united in marriage with Lynette (Sieg-Spear) and was blessed with four more children. Gene was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Clear Lake, SD. He will be remembered most for his strong faith and the love for his family. His best times were the occasions spent with his family as well as friends and neighbors. He also had a passion for nature and sports. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, bowling, basketball and slow pitch softball. Gene passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 at his home near Altamont, SD at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 11 days. Gene is lovingly remembered by his wife Lynette, daughter Brenda Hanten, daughter Glenda (Rob) Goens, son Keith (Danelle) Stohr, son Steven Spear (Sandra), daughter Chrystal (Wayne) Rabine, son Allen Stohr, and son Carl Stohr; nineteen grandchildren: Amanda (Dustin) Kreger, Mindy Miller, Brandi Hanten, Dylan Hanten, Corey Hanten, Calli Hanten, Karli Hanten, Wade (Becca) Goens, Nikki (Ryan) Sjurson, Matt Peiker, Jon (Kristin) Peiker, Alisha (Anthony) Halverson, Rebecca (Lane) Meyer, Natalie Stohr (Mathew Cassels), Sabrina Schram (Chad Graham), Jazzmin Caster, Caysen Stohr, Brynn Stohr, and Kyllan Stohr; twenty great-grandchildren; four siblings: Robert (Marjean) Stohr, LeRoy (Cheryl) Stohr, Doug (Darlene) Stohr, and David (Corrine) Stohr; one sister-in law Gloria Stohr; two brother-in-laws: Gary Sieg, and John (Donna) Sieg; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Edna Stohr, brother and sister-in-law Harvey (Bev) Stohr, brother Edward Stohr, and father and mother-in-law Larry (Madge) Sieg. - Houseman Funeral Home
