Description	:	Funeral services for Eugene Stortvedt, age 88, of Norfolk will be Saturday July 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery at Norfolk. Millitary rites will be provided by VFW Post 1644, American Legion Post 16, and National Guard Honor Team. Eugene died Wednesday July 27, 2011 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Eugene was born on October 18, 1922 in Yankton, South Dakota, the fifth child of Peter Andreas and Elnora Garness Stortvedt. He graduated from Volin High School in 1939 and joined the United States Army in 1943. He served his country during World War II as a security escort guard. He guarded prisoners of war in Germany, Holland, and Belgium until 1945 when he then was honorably discharged and attended the University of South Dakota and graduated in May of 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He then moved to Norfolk where he was employed as an accountant with M. J. Schoening, C.P.A. He married Leatta Rose Youngbluth at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk on February 23, 1951. To this union two sons were born: Randall (Randy) Lee and Mark Eugene Stortvedt. He started his own accounting business in Norfolk in 1959 and retired in 1984. As a way of showing his Love to God, Gene volunteered to do books for Grace Lutheran Church for about 20 years. His special recreational activity was fattening cows during the summer. Eugene is survived by his wife Leatta, son Randy Stortvedt and wife Debra of Omaha, son Mark Stortvedt and wife Colleen of Norfolk and foster daughter Janette Kingsley and husband Tom of Platte Center. He is survived by one brother, Vernett Stortvedt of Norfolk. Also surviving him are grandchildren Joy Stortvedt of Shenendoah, Iowa, Leah Stortvedt of Omaha, Beracah Stortvedt and wife Rachel of Long Beach, California, April and Cherise Stortvedt of Lincoln, Scott Kingsley of Dakota City, Kevin Kingsley and wife Marti of Stanton, and Ryan Kingsley, serving in the United States Navy at Diego Garcia Naval Base and wife Cami. He had three great-grandchildren, Shaleena, Raelynn, and Bode Kingsley of Stanton. Preceding him in death were his maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents, his sister Cecilia and brothers Ernest and Peter. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
