A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Gracie Williams Bowers. He was retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center as a Laundry-Machine Operator. Mr. Bowers... Read More	Eugene Bowers - ELIZABETHTON Eugene Ernest Bowers, 87, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Gracie Williams Bowers. He was retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center as a Laundry-Machine Operator. Mr. Bowers served in the United States Army during World War 11. He was a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with 3 bronze stars, the Purple Heart Medal, The American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Bowers was a member of the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church where he was a former Trustee of the church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Wanda Rose Bowers., March 29, 2000. Surviovrs include Two Daughters: Shirley Burks and Judy Jones and husband Paul all of Elizabethton. One Brother: Burl Bowers, Elizabethton. Four Grandchildren; Tony Jones, Scotty Jones, Bradley Burks and Tina Burleson. Six Great Grandchildren; Christopher Burks, Brittany Burleson, Landon Jones, Colby Jones, Skyler Burleson and Korbin Brown.. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh and Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in the Garland Cemetery. Music will be provided by the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday will be: Tony Jones, Scotty Jones, Bradley Burks, Brad Asher, Jimmy Buckles and Brian Asher. Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of Judy & Paul Jones. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion & Tennessee National Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday.
