Description	:	Eugene Garland Kuhn, 25, of Foxville, 25 year old veteran of World War II, died Saturday afternoon en route to the Washington County Hospital after having been struck by a bolt of lighting while seeking shelter from a thunderstorm near Bethel. Read More	Eugene Garland Kuhn, 25, of Foxville, 25 year old veteran of World War II, died Saturday afternoon en route to the Washington County Hospital after having been struck by a bolt of lighting while seeking shelter from a thunderstorm near Bethel. Kuhn was one of a group engaged in digging a well on the premises of Otho Toms, Bethel when the storm broke. With his father, Charles Kuhn, Sterling Draper, Clemmy Kuhn and Hunter McAfee, fufuge from the storm was soughtin the celler of the Toms home about 2:30 p. m. The group was standing near electric light inlet when a bolt of lighting struck a wire, exploding in a ball of fire in the cellar, felling Kuhn and also knocking Draper to the ground alongside. Draper was quickly revived, but Kuhn in an unconscious condition was taken to the office of Dr. Kohler at Smithsburg. The physician ordered him to the Washington County Hospital at Hagerstown and while being rushed there in the M. L. Creager and Son ambulance, Kuhn failed to rally and succumbed on the way. ############################### Funeral Tuesday Kuhn was a son of Charles and Mary A. (Lewis) Kuhn, Foxville and was aged 25 years, eight months and 27 days. He enlisted in the Army on February 2, 1943 and was discharged on March 20, 1946 after two years service over seas as a technician fifth-grade, 530th U. S. Quartermaster Salvage Repair Company. Surviving besides his parents are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth (Lewis) Kuhn, and a small daughter Judy Ann. The following sisters and brother also survive; Mrs. Edna Lewis, Thurmont, Mrs. Ruth Brandenburg, Braddock Heights; Mrs. Catherine Hurley, Foxville; Mrs. Betty Draper, Middletown; Mrs. Emma Humerick, Thurmont; Clemmy Kuhn, Foxville. The body is at the funeral home in Thurmont where friends may call until Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. standard time, when services will be held at Bethel Church, near Garfield.
