Eugene Gary Knutson was born May 17, 1949, the son of Knute G. and Vivian (Ones) Knutson, in Kenmare, ND. He was raised and educated in Kenmare and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1967. Read More	Eugene Knutson, 68, rural Kenmare, ND, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017, in a Minot hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Eugene Gary Knutson was born May 17, 1949, the son of Knute G. and Vivian (Ones) Knutson, in Kenmare, ND. He was raised and educated in Kenmare and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1967. Following graduation, Eugene attended both Minot State University and the North Dakota State College of Sciences in Wahpeton before being drafted into the United States Army in spring of 1970. He proudly served his country during his deployment to Vietnam before being honorably discharged in the fall of 1971. Eugene married Debra Miller on February 2, 1973 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tolley, ND. They made their home in Tolley from 1973 – 1993 before purchasing land near the family farmstead NE of Kenmare. From this union two children were born: Christopher and Amanda. Following marriage, Eugene worked for a time at Ingerson Manufacturing of Kenmare, constructing campers. He then worked for the Tolley School District as a bus driver and custodian. He also sold crop insurance at one time. Eugene worked on the family farm with his father for a number of years, while also doing custom baling and spraying for other farmers in the area. He would eventually take over the family business and farm for over 40 years. Eugene was a member of Evanger Lutheran Church of rural Norma, ND and was once a member of the Tolley American Legion. Eugene loved his canine companions. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, metal detecting to hunt for treasure with his friends and collecting coins. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving family includes: Wife of 44 years, Debbie Knutson, Kenmare; children, Christopher (Sarah) Knutson, Kenmare and Amanda Knutson (Erik Moe), Bismarck; grandchildren, Caleb Knutson, Cami Jo Knutson and Jordan Hanson; brother, Steven Knutson, Billings, MT; sisters, Kristine Brekhus, Minot and Holly (Mike) Beck, Bismarck; uncles, Clifford (Phyllis) Knutson, Fergus Falls, MN and Victor (Alma) Knutson, Minot; aunts, Jenny Gates, Minot and Florence Nesland, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
