Gene was well known over the county and particularly in this community where he had resided his entire lifetime. A farmer by vocation, he had given up heavy work sometime ago, aware of his heart condition. Early this year he conducted the farm census in this area. Genial and good natured, Gene will be missed in the affairs of the community in which he took part. He greatly enjoyed sports, bowled regularly with an Elwood team and was treasurer of the Gosper County Red Cross Chapter. Obituary Eugene Staedelin was born September 2, 1908, six milts south of Elwood, Nebraska to Sanford and Hannah Staedelin. Eugene went to the Kempton school thru the eighth grade and attended high school at Elwood. He then moved to Elwood and has been a resident of the town since. He was united in marriage to Fern Miles on October 12, 1947. He was a member of both the Old Fellows and Masonic lodges. Mr. Staedelin was preceded in death by his mother in 1934 and his father in 1947. He is survived by his wife and many friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 14th from Elwood Methodist church (sic) in charge of the Rev. Russell Brown. Mrs. Merton Leggott was organist. The Christian Men's quartette sang. Pallbearers were A.T. Almquist, P.J. Umberger, Vern Moor, A.O. Mitchem, H.H. Hawley and Russel Morgan.
