Description	:	S/SGT US AIR FORCE KOREA BANGOR - Eugene Poulin, 92, died April 8, 2014 after a short illness. He was born March 15, 1922, in Augusta, the youngest child of the late Gedeon and Leontine (Dutil) Poulin. Gene attended St. Augustine School and worked for his brother, Robutel at his grocery store on Mt. Vernon Avenue prior to entering the US Army in 1942. He was born March 15, 1922, in Augusta, the youngest child of the late Gedeon and Leontine (Dutil) Poulin. Gene attended St. Augustine School and worked for his brother, Robutel at his grocery store on Mt. Vernon Avenue prior to entering the US Army in 1942. In 1944, Gene landed in Normandy on D-Day plus 3 as part of Battery C, 459th Anti-Aircraft Artillary (AW) Battalion. He fought in France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. After being wounded, he was offered the Purple Heart but declined when told that his parents would be notified that he had been wounded. In 2012, the Ambassador of France, His Excellency Francois Delattre, notified Gene that the President of France had appointed him a "Chevalier" of the Legion of Honor for his service in the liberation of France during World War II. After the war, he served briefly in the Maine Air National Guard. He was a member of the "Greatest Generation". In 1941 gene married Priscilla Hutchinson of Hallowell who predeceased him in 2003. They were married 61 years. Beginning in 1952, Gene and Priscilla made their home in Bangor with their son, Brian. Gene worked for Maine Beauty Supply serving greater Bangor, eastern and northern Maine. He retired in 1984, but continued working at The Pilot's Grill until it closed in 2002. He was especially close to the Zoidis family who owned the Grill. Gene was loved by many people in his beloved Bangor. He was generous and kind to many. In his home-town of Augusta, his family adored him. His many nephews and nieces and their families knew him as "Uncle Santa" for the gifts and love he showered on them. Gene was predeceased by his brothers, Robutel, Emile, Romeo, Roland, Theberge and Clement Poulin and sisters, Alice Cormier and Loretta Paradis. He is survived by his son, Brian of Bangor, many nieces and a nephews, his sister-in-law, Maxine (Hutchinson) Blackburn of Augusta and his very dear friends and caregivers for many years, Virginia Barteaux and Shawn Ogdon of Bangor. Committal services will be held in the Chapel of Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 4/11/2014)
