Read More	Eugene "Gene" Joseph Harn died on Christmas Day 2009 at the age of 89, living a long, productive and interesting life. Gene was born on Aug. 25, 1920, to Hugh and Betty Harn in Livingston. His mother died when he was 2 years old, and he lived with relatives in Iowa for two years. When his father remarried, Marie Kenealy, he returned to live in Livingston. Gene was an industrious lad, holding jobs in the Depression as a Saturday Evening Post delivery boy and later at a gas station for a quarter a day. After graduating from Park County High School in Livingston in 1938, Gene worked briefly on a dude ranch and then with his father on the Northern Pacific Railroad. Gene moved to Portland and worked building ships during WWII. He obtained his Associate's Degree from Multnomah College and was a wrestling instructor at the YMCA. Later, he traveled the Pacific Coast states selling encyclopedias. After World War II, Gene studied Civil Engineering at Montana State College and did post-war reconstruction in Guam. He left college early and moved to Billings to start his own construction company. Gene met Leona Schumacher at St. Patrick's Catholic Church's Pat Club and they married on Nov. 22, 1950. Their construction company grew and they acquired rental properties. He built their first home in 1952 on 28th Street West. In 1959, they moved to the house he built at 428 Custer Avenue, where he lived for 48 years. He moved to Sage Tower in 2007 and to Vintage Suites in 2008. Gene and Leona were charter members of Holy Rosary Church; he attended St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral during his later years. Devoted to physical fitness and recreation, he was an avid bowler in his earlier years and, later, enjoyed running and jumping in Master's Track events. Gene also traveled extensively, visiting Mexico, South Korea, Israel, Rome, Denmark, and Honduras, but Chico Hot Springs was one of his favorite places. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Leona, who died in 1999. He was an only child, but he is survived by six children (Thomas, Gerald, Robert, William, Patricia and Daniel); six grandchildren (Erin, Casey, Michelle, Kimberly, Lauren and John); two great-grandchildren (Grace and Sophia); and three daughter's-in-law (Virginia, Renee and Diane). His family deeply appreciates the daily visits and assistance provided by his good friend, Bob Flanagan, during the last couple years. Gene said he wished to be remembered "…as bringing each of you (his family) closer to the Lord Jesus." Vigil is Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral with memorial mass to be celebrated on Thursday, at 9 a.m. Interment of ashes will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Billings.
