Description	:	Eugene "Gene" Leo LaMarre, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 7, 2010. Gene was born on May 20, 1931, in Waterville, the fourth and youngest child of Leonce and Mattie LaMarre. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1948 and shortly after turning 18 years old joined the Navy, serving as an electrician for 16-inch guns aboard the battleship U.S.S. Gene was born on May 20, 1931, in Waterville, the fourth and youngest child of Leonce and Mattie LaMarre. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1948 and shortly after turning 18 years old joined the Navy, serving as an electrician for 16-inch guns aboard the battleship U.S.S. Missouri in the Korean Conflict. On Aug. 25, 1956, Gene married Shirley Carey. Together, they raised three sons: Richard, David and Anthony. Gene worked for 35 years for the New England Telephone Company and later NYNEX Corporation as a cable splicer and then a manager of construction and engineering. A sister, Annette Morin and brother, Albert "Larry" LaMarre, predeceased Gene. He is survived by his beloved wife and constant companion of nearly 54 years, Shirley; three sons, Richard and his wife, Theresa, of Marcellus, N.Y., David of Oakland and Anthony and his wife, Kimberly, of Freeport; seven grandchildren, David LaMarre Jr. and his wife, Kristi, of Pinellas, Fla., Brendan LaMarre of Quincy, Mass., and Evan and Lily LaMarre of Freeport, Sha-Lee and Mei LaMarre of Marcellus, N.Y., and Camdyn LaMarre of Oakland; and one great-grandson, Jackson LaMarre of Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are his sister, Gloria Pouliotte of Waterville; sister-in-law Rita LaMarre of Appleton, Wis., and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
