CONGER DIES; RITES FEBRUARY 9 Funeral services were held Monday, February 9, 1970, from the First Christian church of Holyoke, with Pastor Tom Robinson officiating, for Eugene M. Conger, 87, who passed away at Melissa Memorial Hospital, February 5, following a six month illness. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. The Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Eugene Milton Conger, son of Sidney and Lavilla Kingsley Conger, was born in Poweshiek County, Iowa on October 5, 1882. He was one of eight children. When he was a young man his family moved to Mahaska, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. While in this community he worked for a time as a barber. On June 27, 1917 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Jane Larson [daughter of James Larson and Martelia Bradley] at Mahaska, Kansas. To this union one child was born. The young couple made their first home at Meckling, South Dakota, where they engaged in farming. In 1920 they moved to Colorado to work on the Roscoe Ozman farm near Amherst. The following year the family moved to North Star community southwest of Holyoke. In 1923 they moved to the Amitie community where they lived until his death. He was a member of the Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; one daughter, Mrs. Dale Colglazier, Holyoke; a sister, Nellie; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
