Steffen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. He died Friday, December 31, 2010 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha. Eugene was born on May 30, 1931 on the family farm south of Battle Creek. He was the son of William and Edna (Aldag) Prauner. He was baptized on June 14, 1931 and confirmed on April 15, 1945 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He attended St. Peters Lutheran School through the eighth grade and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1949. Eugene served in the U.S. Navy from January 1951 until November 1954. He married Carolyn Stallard on June 12, 1955 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. In 1956 they moved to San Diego, CA where he worked for Convair in photo reproduction. In 1962 the family moved back to Battle Creek where he was employed by the Battle Creek Grain Company for 7 years and the city of Battle Creek for 5 years. In 1971 Eugene began farming south of Battle Creek until moving into town in 1992. He worked at the Farmers Co-op for 7 years until his retirement. Eugene was an active member of St. John Lutheran church where he served on several boards as elder, trustee and the Board of Education. All four of Eugene and Carolyn's daughters attended and were confirmed at St. John Lutheran school and church. Eugene is survived by his wife Carolyn Prauner of Norfolk, their daughters and husbands, Nancy and Randy Connot of Lincoln, Barb and Dan Preusker of Battle Creek, Teri and Jeff Olson of Hastings, and Carla and Lonnie Mahrt of Fremont, and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Gerald Prauner, and one sister Lois Kerber.
