Funeral services were held Saturday, October 20 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Miller with the Rev. Richard Gould officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Huron. Active casketbearers were Don Holly, Gene Stevens, Gene Norton, Artie Manning, Rich Waldrop and Dick Major. Eugene Richard Cox was born August 28, 1926 in Fedora, S.D., to Milford & Viola (Davids) Cox. He attended grade school in Carthage and graduated from Fedora High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from January 1945 to July 1946 with six months in Japan. On June 15, 1950, he married Darlene Cundy at the Esmond Methodist Church. To this union two children were born, 1 daughter, Marlys, and 1 son, Michael. He started his career as a grain elevator manager in Esmond and managed Vayland, Wessington and Winner, where he retired in 1991. They moved to Miller in 1991 where he enjoyed his many friends and part-time jobs. Those friends who attended the local dances will remember how he sincerely enjoyed gliding across the dance floor with his sweetheart, Darlene. His children will miss his fatherly wisdom. He was a loving man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Miller; 1 daughter, Marlys Aune of Topeka, Kansas; 1 son, Michael (Mary) Cox of Tucson, Arizona; 1 grandson, Zachary Eugene Cox of Tucson; 3 cousins and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
