Description	:	Eugene Roberts, 91, of Marshall, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Gene was born June 4, 1925 in Madison County to the late Garfield and Zora Roberts. He has been a member of Freeman Gap Baptist Church since 1973, a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for the past 35 years. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, neighbor and friend. Read More	Eugene Roberts, 91, of Marshall, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Gene was born June 4, 1925 in Madison County to the late Garfield and Zora Roberts. He has been a member of Freeman Gap Baptist Church since 1973, a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for the past 35 years. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, neighbor and friend. Gene was a tobacco farmer and logger. He also loved to garden and be outside where he worked very hard to provide for his family. He was a blessing to all who knew him. Gene loved the Lord and lived his life being a witness for him. He looked forward to the day he would go home to Heaven. His heart's desire was to be in the presence of the Lord and if you ever had the chance to talk with him he would quickly let you know that. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Gladys Shelton Roberts whom he deeply missed and asked about every day since her passing. They had a wonderful marriage and were extremely close. They set a great example for what true love is. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Sam, Carter, Bob, Alford, Canda, Jessie, Kie, Calvin and Levy Roberts; sisters, Minnie Shelton, Geneva Roberts, Myra Chandler; daughter in law, Lynn Roberts; granddaughter, Rose Ella Roberts Franklin; grandson in law, Richard Hawkins. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Barbara Hensley (Robert); sons, Jackie Roberts (Vickie), David Roberts, James Roberts (Jane), Elbert Roberts (Susie); his many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special friends, Roger and Jerry Green. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 31, 2016 in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Services with Reverends Ricky Honeycutt, Brian Roberts, Brian Shetley and Ronnie McMahan officiating. Burial will follow in the Dry Pond Cemetery.
