Born April 11, 1927, in Des Moines County, he was the son of Ralph and Clara Mae Wolf Schmidt. On Jan. 1, 1949, he married Eupha Mae Harned in Morning Sun. Mr. Schmidt retired at the age of 72 as a truck driver in Burlington. He was an ordained pastor and served three churches in Iowa. He was a farmer until 1959. He was a Burlington High School graduate and a 1963 graduate of Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music. He was an Army veteran, serving in Austria during World War II as a sergeant. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Vern Schmidt of Lancaster, Texas, and Dale Schmidt of Burlington; one daughter, Naomi Landis of Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. The funeral for Mr. Schmidt will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel with Erwin Muff officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
