Description	:	IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Eugene "Gene" Virgil Knox, 78, of Idaho Falls, died January 20, 2007 at his home from cancer. He was born July 30, 1928 in Dixon, South Dakota, one of 6 children of Virgil Everett and Philora Ester Strong Knox. He attended elementary school in a one-room school in Dixon, then attended high school in Gregory, where his father drove the family to school. Read More	IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Eugene "Gene" Virgil Knox, 78, of Idaho Falls, died January 20, 2007 at his home from cancer. He was born July 30, 1928 in Dixon, South Dakota, one of 6 children of Virgil Everett and Philora Ester Strong Knox. He attended elementary school in a one-room school in Dixon, then attended high school in Gregory, where his father drove the family to school. He was very athletic, playing football and basketball, and, always a leader, he became High School Student Body President his Senior year. Upon graduation from High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Army serving in the occupation of Japan and being discharged with an honorable discharge in 1948. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, and later received his Masters in Business Administration at Moscow, Idaho. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Chambers May 30, 1948. They lived in California from 1952 to 1970 where he was employed at Aerojet and worked on the Apollo rocket and was able to be at the lift-off of Neil Armstrong's flight to the Moon at Cape Canaveral. In 1969, Aerojet Nuclear sent him to Idaho Falls until 1974. He then worked for Kaiser Engineering as a manager of the ‘Japan to Perth pipeline project.' They lived in Perth, Australia for 2 years, then moved back to Walnut Creek, CA. They moved back to Idaho where he worked at the INEL and later as ASI Consultant for Lockheed until his retirement at age 68. He was a member of the Methodist church, the American Legion and also the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Bingo, golfing, hunting, fishing, jogging and exercising.
