FLOY YOCUM Eula Floy Yocum, eldest daughter of Enos H. and Martha Van Benthusen, was born near Confidence, Iowa, May 11, 1899, and after a brief illness passed from this life Aug. 19, 1929, at the age of 40 years, 3 months and 5 days. Her entire life was spent in the community where she was born. As a girl she attended school in Confidence, later taking a music course at Simpson College in Indianola. Upon completion of that work she taught a class in music for some time. She was married to James Frederick Yocum on March 1, 1917, and the new home was established on a farm near Confidence. To this union three sons were born. They are Rex, Max and Dean, all living at home. She was truly a devoted wife and mother, only anxious for the welfare of those so dear to her heart. During the year of 1911, "Floy," as she was known by all, accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized on Dec. 27, placing her membership with the Confidence church. Throughout the years her Christian life has been manifested in a faithful, untiring interest in the work of the church. Serving as pianist for many years, acting as a capable counsellor, helping in any way that was needed, her life of testimony in service has been an outstanding one. Besides the bereaved husband and sons, she leaves to mourn her departure her mother, Mrs. Martha Van Benthusen, of Russell; two sisters, Mrs. Oveda Mosbey, of Plano, and Mrs. Osa Rowe, of Oskaloosa; also her aged grandfather, Eli Smith, of Russell; three uncles; 3 aunts; 4 nieces, 3 nephews and many other relatives and a host of friends who are deeply saddened by her sudden death. Largely attended funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals on Monday, August 21, at the Confidence Community church. Interment was made in the Confidence cemetery.
