Mrs. Singletary was born in the Elim Community of Effingham, a daughter of the late Fred and Edith Bailey Askins. She received her education from Bonaire School in Effingham and was retired from K-Mart in Florence. Read More	Eunice Askins Singletary EFFINGHAM - Eunice Askins Singletary, 76 of Effingham and the Commander Nursing Home, died Friday, October 2, 2009 in a local health care facility after an illness. Mrs. Singletary was born in the Elim Community of Effingham, a daughter of the late Fred and Edith Bailey Askins. She received her education from Bonaire School in Effingham and was retired from K-Mart in Florence. She was a Lifetime Member of Elim Baptist Church, a member of the Joy Club, the Doreas class and The American Legion Hut of Effingham. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jasper Spencer Singletary, Sr.; two brothers, Marion and Buddy Askins and a sister, Hallie Askins Benton. Surviving are two daughters, Stella Chavis (James) McGee and Paula (James Bennie) Hicks both of Effingham; two sons, Jasper Spencer Singletary, Jr. of Effingham and A.L. Singletary of Pamplico; a brother, Gene (Ellen) Askins of Effingham; nine grandchildren, Chris (Angie) Chavis, Tara (Brooks) Barrineau, Michael Singletary, Stephanie (Woody) Watford, Albert Hicks, Matthew Singletary, Crystal Hicks, Jessie Hicks and Maysa Chavis; ten great-grandchildren, Brittany Hamilton, Christina and Elizabeth Chavis, Brianna and Clarissa Singletary, Tal and Anna Grace Gerald, Nikolas Hicks, Jackson Barrineau and Stephen Watford; numerous nieces and nephews, close loved friends and all of her adopted youngens and "Boss" her 4 legged little boy. Mrs. Singletary loved calling friends and family and singing Happy Birthday or AnniversaryShe loved singing, bingo, crafts and sharing her personal ministry with everyone that she met. She loved participating in all activities at the nursing home and loved greeting new patients and friends. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, October 5, 2009 in the Elim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Elim Baptist Church Playground Fund, 1303 Olanta Highway, Effingham, SC 29541. A very special thank you to all the wonderful nurses and aides on the south hall at Commander Nursing Center, Dr. William Bouleware & Dr. Player along with the entire staff in the Trauma Unit at McLeod Regional Pavilion Towers for the wonderful love and compassion that they shared with our mother. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the residence Stella and James McGee, 5730 Stagecoach Road, Effingham, SC.
