Description	:	Eunice was born at the end of the Civil War and named after her paternal grandmother Eunice Jackson McIntire. She grew up on a large farm on the Missouri-Iowa line. Education was encouraged at home, and plans were made for her to visit family in the East & to go to College. At 17 her grandmother Eunice who lived with the family suddenly died. She grew up on a large farm on the Missouri-Iowa line. Education was encouraged at home, and plans were made for her to visit family in the East & to go to College. At 17 her grandmother Eunice who lived with the family suddenly died. Four months later her father died after a brief illness. Two years later, Eunice was enrolled at Mt. Carroll Seminary, where she made friends for life. The McIntyre's were adventurers, and the next few years found most of the family wanting to Go West in pursuit of free land, if only you would live upon a homestead & improve it a bit each year. Eunice, her brothers, mother, and uncles' families went out to Western Nebraska. It was in Western Nebraska that Eunice's life changed. A troubled young man became fixated with Eunice in Missouri. Neighbor boy, Charlie Clark wanted to win her hand in marriage but she always refused him after his marriage proposals. He was a couple years younger than Eunice and often engaged in criminal behavior. Although they never dated, she worried what he might be capable of, including avoiding lemonade at picnics afraid he might poison her. Out in Nebraska he became more aggressive & threatened to kill her if she didn't agree to marry him. Finally there was a final standoff in her little homestead cabin where he shot her twice & then pointed the gun at his head and fatally shot himself. Eunice survived the tragedy. One bullet was removed and remains in the family's possession, but the other lodged near her heart for life. The Physicians that attended her after the shooting were afraid to remove the bullet because it was so close to her heart. She carried the bullet next to hear for life but secretly petrified that it would move and end her life she told her doctor when she was nearly a hundred years old.. Eunice returned home to Missouri after she recovered, where she met Wesley Walter, who was visiting his uncle Simon Brubaker in that area. They married at the home of Eunice's mother. they lived many places while they had several children, before finally settling on the Clark's Fork River at Chance, Montana. Wes passed away 14 March 1929 while in San Mateo, California to see a cardiologist about his heart condition. He was staying with his son Gail when he passed away. Eunice lived nearly another 40 years, never remarrying. She always valued her many friendships and cousins. The children of Eunice & Wesley were: -Hazel Grace Walter (b. 1895) m.
