FROM INDIANA Mrs. Jewell was born in Thorntown, Indiana, February 4, 1835. Her maiden name was Eunice Tharp. From there she went to Cedar Rapids and then moved to Benton county. On May 4, 1856 in Benton Co., she became the bride of Henry D. Jewell. Four children were born to this union: David, William V., Hattie Burkhart and Mary Campbell, all but David survive the death of the parents, Henry Jewell, the husband died in 1891. Besides the children there are one sister and 16 grandchildren who survive besides hosts of interested friends. Mrs. Jewell was a splendid woman and her long life was filled with useful effort. She enjoyed to an unusual degree the love and esteem of her many acquaintances. (January 21, 1909 Benton Co. Times)
