A. Williams" [end of update] Bio: Sometimes Agnes Anderson is characterized as a blood Cilley descendant. This is an error. Instead, she was a devoted wife and longtime widow of the Civil War soldier, Columbus Cilley. It seems that she was an early genealogist/close family friend, since her own photos have miraculously survived extant and identified. I believe that she left no surviving issue (as somehow I learned many years ago). Agnes Anderson was to have married soldier, Columbus Cilley on the 30th October 1867. The birth and death dates I entered above I found recorded in Hazel Stroup of Hamilton, Butler, OH's excellent book series on Butler Co cemeteries, Vol 8, p34, R929.3 qO37bu, PLCHC. Sadly, Agnes buried her two sons and her husband. I think that years ago I had been told that Agnes tied to one of the early Isaac Anderson's graves at Venice Cem, but I cannot make that leap. If there is an Anderson researcher out there please advise as to the links for her true heritage. Clues: 1. Her 1867 marriage is found in Butler Co OH, along with a middle initial of E for Agnes.["Ohio, Marriages, 1800-1958," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XDF4-NB4 : accessed 14 May 2013), Columbus Cilley and Agnes E. Anderson, 30 Oct 1867.] 2. Next we learn that the marriage was in Hamilton, Butler Co., OH. How wonderful to find that some answers lie in her death record. Here we learn her parents were James Anderson and Hannah Margaret Anderson, nee _______?; her DOB 25 Nov 1844, Butler Co, OH;residence, 1533 Groesbeck Ave.; she died a widow at age 70 yrs. Could this 1850 large household in Ross Township of James Anderson, farmer with $10,000 of land be ... Amazingly, there are some family papers preserved in West Virginia at a repository kind enough to process them and post a Register online. On pgs 24-25 of this Register in the section on the Anderson Family, the first generation is Isaac Anderson m Euphemia Morehead, 14 Nov 1788. Underneath here are what appear to be eleven children in the next generation. Item B-10, "James md Hannah Taylor" is our clue; then the Second Generation continues, with B-10 naming James Anderson md Hannah Taylor, under which are four named children; one is Item C-30 "Euphemia Agnes md Columbus Cilley". This seems sufficient to correct Agnes's full name to nee Euphemia Agnes Anderson, but she definitely went by the name of Agnes. Also we learn her mother's maiden surname of Taylor; combining that with Clue #3, her mother's name becomes nee Hannah Margaret Taylor. Thanks so much to the James E. Morrow Library and I hope researchers can visit your collections! 6. So following p25, Reg of the Robert Gilchrist Fam. Papers,infra, Agnes' older brother is C-29, Isaac R Anderson m Margaret Stewart. One earlier Isaac is B-6, Isaac Anderson md Margaret Morris; a daughter Eliza is shown as C-27, Eliza md John Lewis--when noticing the Lewis family inscription on the side of one Isaac/Margaret grave this may need to be studied further. The kind special collections librarian indicated via the phone (304.696.2343) that the summer is the best time to view the ms (one of 700 collections she says they preserve).
