Description	:	Eva A. Ching, age 91, of Watertown, South Dakota, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown with Pastor Tom Christenson and Pastor Sam Hatlestad officiating. Eva Adelaide Ching was born February 16, 1916 to Henry and Othilda (Gilbertson) Bekke, in Hayti, South Dakota. She attended rural Hamlin County schools, Hayti High School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1933. She attended Dakota State University at Madison (at that time it was known as Eastern) and obtained her elementary teaching certificate. She taught rural schools in the Hayti and Castlewood areas for five years. She was employed at Nicol Floral and Gifts and Sioux Valley Greenhouses for over 20 years. On October 20, 1939 Eva was united in marriage with Howard Ching at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. The couple lived and farmed east of Castlewood where she lived for 51 years. After Howard passed away in 1976 Eva continued to live on the farm until 1990 when she moved to Watertown. She moved to the Castlewood Assisted Living in May 2007. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Martha Circle, Elks Wives and Widows, AARP, a charter member of the Stray Horse Echo Extension Club, 4-H Leader and card club. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood, the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of Norway. She enjoyed traveling and had traveled extensively in the United States and made trips to Europe and Norway. Her interests also included the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, crafts, reading, hardanger needlework, crossword puzzles, rosemaling, and playing cards. Eva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Gerald Edgar Bekke, who died in WWII. Eva is survived by her daughter, Carol (Dr. LeRoy) Tesch of Watertown, SD; her sons, Larry (Terra) Ching of Castlewood, SD and Dr. Gerald Ching of Tampa, FL; her sister Harriette Ching of Bellingham, WA; five grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
